Argentina scored eight tries to achieve a 59-5 scoreline in the first Rugby World Cup match to ever be played between two South American sides.

Argentina are chasing a quarter-final berth at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France and they took a big step towards that goal with a convincing 59-5 victory over Chile in Nantes on Sunday.

The match was the first-ever Rugby World Cup encounter between two South American sides and it was Argentina who dominated from the start.

Los Pumas scored eight tries in total, with Santiago Carreras crossing for a hat-trick. Emiliano Boffelli and Jerónimo de la Fuente also scored two tries each, while Tomas Cubelli and Lucio Cinti added one apiece.

Chile's only points came from a penalty goal by Santiago Videla.

The win takes Argentina to the top of Pool D with 10 points from two games. They will now face England in their final pool match on October 8.

Chile, meanwhile, are bottom of the pool with no points from two games. They will face Japan in their final pool match on October 8.
